Je suis Charlie

B6vyjOPIIAA-4SO-446x413

I sit here with trepidation. Ive cooked my family dinner, we ate together. Everyone came home. I’ve settled my little one in her bed. Us grownups, we started our movie. Yet I am here at my kitchen counter.  We are alive. Je suis Charlie. I am Charlie. I am a believer of freedom of speech, I am a believer of FREEDOM OF SPEECH. I am horrified by what happened today. I cannot settle because I tell everyone who will listen that we are millions of people on this Earth, we live in harmony. We come from different backgrounds and beliefs, we live in harmony. Of course there are some bad apples. Can we generalise? Hell no. The victims of this unneccessary bloodshed, may you rest, wherever you are. I grieve for you. To the Parisians, no one can take away your freedom. Do not allow it. To all the muslims living in fear, As Salaam Alaikum. To all who judge, don’t. We live in a complex, complex time. PLEASE #stophate

Oh Facebook! Don’t mess with our video settings while we’re sleeping, uncool.

Facebook has messed with the autoplay settings of video’s again. I was scrolling down my wall this morning and realised all recordings were playing on their own again.

Here’s a screen shot of what to do to fix the problem real quick, that is unless, you want to receive some crazy bills from your internet service provider at the end of the month!

Go to settings – last option – Videos – drop the second option down – switch off auto play.

200 calorie meals, for FAST days #5:2 Tarka Dhal

Screen Shot 2015-01-06 at 11.51.30

doesn’t this look delicious? thank you http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk for the recipes, I am reposting these here for future reference. This dish is a creamy, Indian classic which is usually served as a side dish but is more than tasty enough to be a lunch on its own. Combine with freshly prepared carrot, celery or cucumber sticks to dip in. This recipe uses only a handful of ingredients so it’s no wonder it’s so low in calories.

Tarka dhal – Recipe

Ingredients For the Dhal:

  • 250g chana dhal (yellow dried split peas), rinsed well
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 level tbsp freshly grated ginger
  • 1 level tsp turmeric
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Salt

For the tarka:

  • 2tbsps ghee or vegetable oil
  • ½ level tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 onion, peeled and sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • Pinch of chilli flakes

Method

  1. Boil 1 litre water and add the chana dhal, garlic, ginger, turmeric and bay leaves. Return the mixture to the boil and skim off any scum from the top. Cover the pan with a lid and simmer the mixture for 45-60 mins, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens.
  2. To make the tarka, heat the oil or ghee in a pan, then add the cumin seeds and cook for a few seconds. Add the onion, garlic and chilli to the pan. Cook over a medium heat for 10-15 mins, or until the onion has softened. Remove the pan from the heat.
  3. If the dhal mixture is still runny, remove the pan lid and increase the heat to reduce the liquid, stirring well.
  4. Once the dhal has softened and is almost smooth, season with salt. Serve with the tarka spooned on top, reheating it if necessary. The tarka may be stirred into the dhal and frozen for up to a month. Defrost before reheating.  137 calories/11.0g fat per portion

Survived the fast, dare I try a back to back?

The most amazing part of this WOE – way of eating – is that the day after a fast you feel so energised and not hungry that you dare think you’d be able to do what seasoned fasters call a ‘back to back’ Not for the faint hearted the B2B fast is restricting calorie intake for 2 days in a row.
